Snail tracks or worm tracks
The phenomenon: The short, thin dark lines that appear on the surface of solar panels are unrelated to real snails and are the product of oxidation.
Cause: Usually caused by microscopic cracks in the panel or defective front metallized silver paste during manufacturing.
Impact: Although it mainly affects the appearance of the module, it has no significant impact on efficiency.
Potential induced degradation (PID)
Cause: Stray current caused by the mismatch between the voltage of the module and the ground.
Impact: Can reduce the power output of photovoltaic devices by one-third.
Prevention: Using a micro inverter can reduce the occurrence of PID, because the micro inverter does not allow the voltage to be too high.
